British Columbia and it’s Best Real Estate Locations

With fertile valleys, popular ski resorts and a temperate northern climate, investing in the British Columbia Real Estate Market is like a no-risk proposition.

This western-most Canadian province is framed by the majestic Rocky Mountains to the east and the vast Pacific Ocean to the west. It is immediately north of the state of Washington. Approximately six per cent of the land is available for development, as the remaining 94 per cent is Crown Land, owned by the Canadian government. The goal of the federal government is preserve as much forest, glaciers and wildlife habitat as possible.

Those looking to purchase time shares, vacation property or even to locate in an area close to winter recreational facilities can look no further than Kimberly, Cranbrook and Fernie. These former mining towns are in the south east corner of B. C. Traveling north, real estate is booming in the Radium and Fairmont Hot Springs and Invermere area. With golf courses and nearby Panorama Ski Resort, this area is an all season resort area. Condominiums in the town and on the ski hills are being snapped up by real estate investors. A majority of condo owners come from the city of Calgary, Alberta which is 300 km to the east.

The Trans Canada Highway cuts through the southern half of B. C. At the base of the Roger’s Pass, lies the sleepy railway town of Revelstoke. Real estate prices are still reasonable in this area, which is just beginning to boom.

Venturing another two hours west, then another few hours south of Sicamous, B. C. Lies the world famous Okanagan Valley. With thousands of acres of orchards, clean lakes and an ever-growing number of small regional wineries, the Okanagan is one of the province’s most prosperous areas. Real estate activity in the small cities of Penticton, Kelowna, Vernon and Kamloops continues to be brisk.

Moving to B. C.’s largest city, Vancouver, real estate prices have gone through the roof. The ski resort of Whistler is internationally famous and vacation homes abound in this region. The jewel in the B. C. Real estate crown is now the Sunshine Coast, which includes the mainland coast and Vancouver Island and the smaller islands north. With ocean breezes bringing warmer temperatures to this region of Canada, this part of the world offers proximity to civilization yet offers a sense of isolation, peace and quiet. Still relatively wild and undeveloped, with historic forests and beautiful beaches, the west coast of B. C. Is one of the nation’s real estate hot spots.

The northern half of the province continues to be wild and beautiful with pockets of civilization. No doubt in the future, as the population continues to climb, the opportunity for investment and development will increase making the potential or real estate in this area very desirable.
